Concert Highlights
Hymnody of Earth
In May of 2025, the SCS joined with renowned composer and hammer dulcimer virtuoso Malcolm Dalglish to perform his Hymnody of Earth, a playful and profound celebration of the natural world. We were thrilled to be able to partner with the Illinois Audubon Society, as well as the Lincoln Memorial Garden & Nature Center, to be able to put Hymnody of Earth where it really belongs: out in the beauty of nature.
Songs For The Unsung
In March of 2025, the SCS presented the Songs for the Unsung Festival in honor of Women’s History Month, partnering with the Sangamon County Historical Society and the Dana-Thomas House to feature stories of significant Springfield women in tandem with the works of a hugely eclectic sweep of female composers.
Handel's Messiah
Each December, the SCS gathers together with the Springfield community for the joyous holiday ritual of Handel’s Messiah. This beloved tradition, like Handel’s timeless music, only grows in freshness each year. In December of 2024, we were thrilled to join with the musicians of the Illinois Symphony Orchestra to fill the lofty rafters of Blessed Sacrament Church with the strains of Hallelujah!
Austria Tour
In June of 2025, the SCS ventured across the ocean for a concert tour of Austria! Joined by composer Malcolm Dalglish, we sang at glorious venues in Salzburg, Melk, and Vienna and had a magical time soaking in the Austrian ambience together.
